The Cham Albanians of Greece

A Documentary History

Tauris in association with the Centre for Albanian Studies, London 2013 xliv + 455 pp. This volume brings together for the first time in English a large number of historical documents on Chameria and the Albanian Chams as an ethnic minority in Greece in order to provide a better understanding of their history and of the Cham issue. The documents, including many from the archives of the British Foreign Office, have been ordered chronologically and are grouped around with three significant turning points in Cham history: (1) Chameria from the Ottoman Empire to Albanian Independence and the First World War, (2) Chameria after the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923, and (3) Chameria in the Second World War and Thereafter. This book thus endeavours to cast light on a neglected chapter of southern Balkan history, sorrowful as it may still be to some readers and irritating as it may still be to others.
